So, what is ganja?
Ganja is a Hindi term derived from Sanskrit that refers to cannabis, specifically the dried flowering tops, leaves, or resin of the Cannabis sativa plant. The plant is cultivated agriculturally, harvested, and cured, or processed using mechanical separation, heat, or solvent extraction to produce concentrated oils and extracts. On food labels, it generally appears in infused edible products such as chocolates, gummies, baked goods, teas, and specialty beverages, as well as in traditional herbal preparations.
ganja is vegan because it is entirely of plant origin. Cultivation and standard extraction methods involve only botanical matter and mineral or synthetic solvents, with no animal sources or animal-derived processing aids used in its production. While multi-ingredient edible products containing ganja might include non-vegan components such as gelatin, dairy butter, or egg whites, the ganja ingredient itself is completely plant-derived and inherently suitable for a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
