So, what is gurkemeje?
Gurkemeje, also known as turmeric, is a vibrant yellow-orange spice commonly used in Indian, Middle Eastern, and Southeast Asian cuisines. It has a warm, earthy flavor with a slightly bitter undertone, and a distinctive aroma reminiscent of orange and ginger. Gurkemeje is a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, such as curcumin, which have been linked to numerous health benefits, including improved brain function and reduced risk of chronic diseases. In addition to its culinary uses, gurkemeje is also used for its vibrant color in cosmetics, textiles, and traditional medicines.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
