So, what is hydrogenated soybean oil?
Hydrogenated soybean oil is a type of vegetable oil that has been processed to make it more stable and solid at room temperature. This is achieved by adding hydrogen atoms to the oil through a process called hydrogenation. The resulting product is a smooth, creamy, and spreadable fat that can be used in a wide variety of culinary applications, such as baking, frying, and as a substitute for butter. However, it is important to note that hydrogenated soybean oil is high in trans fats, which are associated with increased risk of heart disease and other health problems. As a result, many food manufacturers have started to phase out the use of hydrogenated oils in their products in favor of healthier alternatives.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
