So, what is hydroxypropylmethylcellulose?
Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) is a synthetic ingredient commonly used in the food industry as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier. HPMC is derived from cellulose and is made by chemically modifying natural cellulose fibers. HPMC is a white, odorless, and tasteless powder that can absorb water and form a gel-like substance. It is commonly used in foods such as baked goods, dairy products, and sauces to improve texture and mouthfeel. HPMC is also used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other industries for its thickening and binding properties.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
