So, what is karagen?
Carrageenan, also known as karagen, is a natural food ingredient derived from red seaweed. It is a highly versatile and valuable ingredient widely used in the food industry for its gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties. Karagen is rich in soluble fiber and contains no fat or protein, making it an ideal choice for vegan and vegetarian products. It is commonly used in dairy alternatives such as soy milk, almond milk, and coconut milk, as well as in ice creams, desserts, and processed meats. Karagen is considered safe and is approved for use by several international regulatory agencies.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
