So, what is echalotes?
Echalotes, also known as shallots, are a versatile and flavorful ingredient commonly used in French cuisine. They have a slightly sweeter and milder taste than onions, with a subtle hint of garlic. Echalotes are small, elongated bulbs with papery skins, and are typically used chopped or sliced in sauces, dressings, and marinades. They add depth and complexity to dishes such as coq au vin and beef bourguignon, and are a must-have ingredient in many classic French recipes. Echalotes are also a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, potassium, and iron.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
