So, what is lac-resin?
Lac resin, also known as shellac, is a natural secretion produced by the female lac bug found in Southeast Asia and India. The resin is harvested by scraping the bark of the host trees where the bugs reside, and then processed into a variety of forms, including flakes, powder, and liquid. Lac resin has been used for centuries in various industries, including food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, due to its unique properties, including being a natural adhesive, glossing agent, and food glaze. It is commonly used as a coating for candies, pills, and fruits to improve their appearance and extend their shelf life. Additionally, it has been studied for potential medicinal uses due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
