So, what is levure fraiçhe?
"Levure fraîche" is a French term that translates to "fresh yeast" in English. It is a living, natural ingredient used primarily in baking and fermentation processes to create fluffy, light, and airy bread, pastries, and other baked goods. Unlike dry yeast, which is dormant until activated, fresh yeast is alive and active, providing a unique flavor profile and improving the texture of the final product. It has a short shelf life and must be refrigerated, making it more perishable than dry yeast. Bakers and pastry chefs prize fresh yeast for its reliability and versatility, making it a staple ingredient in traditional French baking.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
