So, what is lithium stearate?
Lithium stearate is a white, powdery substance that is commonly used as a lubricant and thickener in a variety of industries, including food production. It is made by reacting stearic acid, a naturally occurring fatty acid found in animal and vegetable fats, with lithium hydroxide. Lithium stearate is often used in the manufacturing of plastic products, such as vinyl siding, and it is also used as a heat-stabilizer in PVC. In the food industry, it is sometimes used as an anti-caking agent in powdered foods and as a release agent in baking processes. Lithium stearate is generally considered safe for consumption in small amounts.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
