So, what is madeira?
Madeira is a fortified wine that originates from the Portuguese island of Madeira, off the coast of Africa. It is made by adding neutral grape spirits to the wine during fermentation, resulting in a high alcohol content and a distinct nutty and caramel-like flavor. Madeira is often used in cooking to add depth and richness to sauces, gravies, and desserts. It pairs well with chocolate, nuts, and strong cheeses like blue cheese. Madeira comes in a range of styles, from dry to sweet, and can be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or after-dinner drink.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
