So, what is nitrito potásico?
Nitrito potásico, also known as potassium nitrite, is a chemical compound commonly used in the food industry as a preservative and color fixative for processed meats. It works by inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria, extending shelf life and preventing spoilage. Nitrito potásico can also give cured meats their characteristic pink color and add a distinct flavor profile. However, excessive consumption of foods containing this ingredient has been linked to adverse health effects, such as an increased risk of cancer and heart disease. As such, it's important to consume nitrito potásico in moderation and be aware of its presence on food labels.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
