So, what is panax ginseng root?
Panax ginseng root is the root of the Panax ginseng plant, a perennial herb native to East Asia, with the botanical genus name Panax deriving from the Greek word meaning all-healing. Commercially, the roots are cultivated for several years before being harvested, washed, and dried in the sun or through steaming. They are typically left whole, sliced, ground into a dry powder, or processed using water or ethanol to produce concentrated liquid extracts. This ingredient frequently appears on labels for energy drinks, herbal teas, dietary supplements, and functional foods.
This ingredient is vegan because it comes entirely from a plant. The cultivation, harvesting, drying, and extraction methods rely solely on botanical matter and standard mechanical or solvent processing, without the use of animal tissues or animal-derived processing aids. Therefore, panax ginseng root contains no animal substances and is fully suitable for a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
