So, what is red port wine?

Red port wine is a rich, fortified wine that originates from Portugal's Douro Valley. It is made from a blend of several red grape varieties, including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz. The wine's deep ruby color and complex flavors of berries, cherries, and spices are derived from the grapes' extended maceration and oak barrel aging. Red port wine's high alcohol content, typically around 20%, results from the addition of brandy during the winemaking process. It is a versatile ingredient that adds depth and richness to sauces, marinades, and desserts. Its bold and fruity flavor profile pairs perfectly with dark chocolate, cheese, and roasted meats.
