So, what is scalogno?
Scalogno, also known as shallot, is a member of the Allium family, which includes onions and garlic. It has a sweet and mild onion-like flavor with a subtle hint of garlic. The bulbous vegetable has a brown papery skin and a clustered shape, with each bulb containing two to three cloves. Scalogno is a staple in French and Asian cuisine, adding a depth of flavor to sauces, dressings, and marinades. It's also commonly used to make compound butter or pickled for a tangy addition to sandwiches and salads. Scalogno is a versatile ingredient that can elevate the taste of any dish.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
