So, what is sorbat de potasiu e202?
Sorbat de potasiu e202 is Romanian for potassium sorbate, a common food preservative identified by the European additive code E202. Potassium sorbate is the potassium salt of sorbic acid. Although sorbic acid naturally occurs in the berries of the mountain ash tree, the commercial additive is synthesized industrially. Manufacturers produce it by reacting synthetic sorbic acid with potassium hydroxide, an inorganic mineral base derived from potassium chloride brine.
Food producers add this compound to inhibit the growth of mold, yeast, and fungi. It frequently appears in fruit juices, soft drinks, jams, baked goods, wine, dried fruits, pickles, and plant-based dairy alternatives.
sorbat de potasiu e202 is vegan because it is manufactured entirely from synthetic chemical precursors and mineral compounds. Animal tissues, byproducts, and animal-derived processing aids are not used in its commercial production, making the ingredient suitable for a vegan diet.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
