So, what is sorbitan oleate?
Sorbitan oleate is a food ingredient that is commonly used as an emulsifier to blend oil and water-based ingredients together. It is a type of ester that is derived from sorbitol, a sugar alcohol, and oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid. Sorbitan oleate is often added to foods such as baked goods, salad dressings, and ice cream to help stabilize the mixture and improve its texture. It is also used in personal care products like lotions and creams for its emulsifying properties. This ingredient is generally considered safe for consumption in small amounts and is approved by regulatory agencies such as the FDA and EFSA.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
