So, what is trisodium phosphate?
Trisodium phosphate, also known as TSP, is a white, granular or crystalline powder with a pH level of around 12. It is a highly soluble compound that is often used as a cleaning agent, stain remover, and degreaser in various industrial and household applications. In the food industry, it is used as a food additive to regulate acidity, emulsify fats, and enhance the texture and appearance of processed foods. Trisodium phosphate is also commonly used in the production of cheese, canned seafood, and meat products to improve their shelf life and prevent spoilage. However, its use as a food additive is controversial, as excessive consumption of TSP may have harmful health effects.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
