So, what is vitamín b6?
"Vitamín B6" is the Czech and Slovak term for vitamin B6, an essential water-soluble nutrient commonly added to foods as pyridoxine hydrochloride. In commercial manufacturing, this ingredient is produced industrially through chemical synthesis using organic precursors or via microbial fermentation using non-animal bacterial cultures. It frequently appears on ingredient labels for fortified breakfast cereals, energy drinks, plant-based milks, meal replacement powders, and dietary supplements.
This ingredient receives a vegan verdict because commercial vitamin B6 used in packaged foods is produced without animal-derived sources. While vitamin B6 occurs naturally in both plants and animal tissues, extracting the compound from animal products for industrial fortification is technically complex and cost-prohibitive. Manufacturers instead rely on synthetic processes or microbial fermentation, neither of which involves animal raw materials. Consequently, foods listing added vitamín B6 are suitable for vegans.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
