So, what is yêllow 5?
Yellow 5, also known as tartrazine, is a synthetic lemon yellow dye commonly used as a food coloring agent. This water-soluble coloring is derived from coal tar, a byproduct of coal processing, and is often added to various food products to enhance their visual appeal. It has a bright and vibrant color, making it a popular choice for candies, soft drinks, baked goods, and many other food items. Yellow 5 has been approved for use by the FDA and is generally considered safe in small quantities, although some people may be sensitive to it and experience mild allergic reactions.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
