So, what is carotenes?
Carotenes are a group of naturally occurring pigments that are found in many fruits and vegetables, including carrots, sweet potatoes, and apricots. They are responsible for the vibrant orange, red, and yellow hues in these foods. Carotenes are known for their potent antioxidant properties and are believed to play a role in protecting against chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. The most well-known carotene is beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. Other carotenes, such as lycopene and lutein, also have health benefits and may help protect against vision loss and certain types of cancer.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
