So, what is hydrogenated fatty oils?
Hydrogenated fatty oils are a type of fat that is created by adding hydrogen molecules to unsaturated fats. This process, known as hydrogenation, results in a more stable fat that has a longer shelf life and is often used in processed foods such as baked goods and fried snacks. Hydrogenated fatty oils are also used as a substitute for butter in some recipes. While hydrogenation can improve the texture and flavor of foods, it also creates trans fats, which have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease. As a result, many health experts recommend limiting consumption of hydrogenated fatty oils.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
