So, what is hydrogenated palm oils?
Hydrogenated palm oil is a type of vegetable oil that has been processed to make it solid at room temperature. This is achieved through a chemical process that adds hydrogen atoms to the oil, making it more stable and resistant to oxidation. Hydrogenated palm oil is commonly used in food manufacturing as a cheap alternative to butter or other solid fats. However, it is high in saturated fats, which can increase cholesterol levels and contribute to heart disease. Some food companies are now opting to use alternatives to hydrogenated palm oil in their products due to these health concerns.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
