So, what is matières grasses végétales hydrogénées?
"Matieres grasses vegetales hydrogenees" is a French term that refers to hydrogenated vegetable fats. These fats are created by adding hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils, transforming them into a solid form. This process increases the shelf life and stability of the fat, making it a common ingredient in many processed foods such as baked goods, fried foods, and snack foods. However, there are concerns over the health implications of consuming hydrogenated vegetable fats, as they are high in trans fats which have been linked to heart disease. As such, many food manufacturers are moving towards alternative fats such as palm oil or fully hydrogenated vegetable oils.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
