So, what is podocarps?
Podocarps are a unique type of coniferous evergreen tree that produces a small, fleshy fruit, similar to a berry. The edible portion of the fruit is the soft, sweet outer layer that surrounds a hard seed. These trees are native to the southern hemisphere, including parts of South America, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In traditional Maori medicine, podocarp extracts were used for their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Today, podocarps are sometimes used in the food industry as a natural flavoring agent due to their fruity, slightly tangy taste.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
