So, what is an tbhq?
TBHQ (tert-butylhydroquinone) is a synthetic antioxidant commonly used in processed foods to extend their shelf life. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in fat and insoluble in water. TBHQ is known for its ability to prevent rancidity and discoloration in foods containing fats and oils. It works by inhibiting the oxidation process that causes food to spoil, keeping it fresher for longer periods of time. Although it is generally recognized as safe by regulatory agencies, TBHQ can cause adverse effects in high doses, and some studies have raised concerns about its potential long-term health effects.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
