So, what is atropa belladonna?
Atropa belladonna, commonly known as deadly nightshade, is a poisonous plant that belongs to the Solanaceae family. It produces shiny black berries that resemble blueberries but are highly toxic, containing potent alkaloids such as atropine, hyoscyamine, and scopolamine. These alkaloids have historically been used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes, including dilating pupils and relieving pain, but they can also cause hallucinations, delirium, and even death when consumed in large amounts. Despite its toxic properties, atropa belladonna has also been used in traditional medicine for its potential therapeutic benefits, such as treating gastrointestinal disorders and muscle spasms. However, due to its extreme toxicity, it is not recommended for consumption without proper medical supervision.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
