So, what is black galangal?
Black galangal, also known as Kaempferia parviflora or Thai black ginger, is a lesser-known herbaceous plant native to Southeast Asia. It is a member of the ginger family and is primarily cultivated for its rhizomes, which possess a distinctively earthy and peppery flavor. While similar in appearance to regular ginger, black galangal has a darker, almost black outer skin and a bright yellow interior. It is commonly used in Thai and Southeast Asian cuisine as a seasoning or flavoring agent for curries, soups, and sauces. Black galangal is also believed to have numerous medicinal properties and is traditionally used in folk medicine to treat various ailments such as inflammation, digestive problems, and fatigue.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
