So, what is butilhidroxitolueno?
Butilhidroxitolueno, also known as BHT, is a synthetic antioxidant commonly used in the food industry to prevent spoilage and extend the shelf life of products. It is a white, crystalline powder that has a slightly bitter taste and is soluble in fats and oils. In addition to its use in food, BHT is also found in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and plastics. While the safety of BHT has been studied extensively, some studies have raised concerns about its potential health effects, particularly in high doses. Despite this, BHT remains a widely used ingredient in the food industry.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
