So, what is butylhydroxinon?
Butylhydroxyanisole (BHA) is a synthetic antioxidant commonly used in the food industry to extend the shelf life of products. It is derived from petroleum and typically added to fatty foods, such as snack foods, baked goods, and chewing gum. Despite its widespread use, BHA has been the subject of controversy due to potential health effects. Some studies have linked BHA consumption to cancer in lab animals, although the evidence for human health effects is inconclusive. As a result, some countries have banned or restricted its use in food products.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
