So, what is callaloo?

Callaloo is a leafy, green vegetable commonly found in Caribbean and West African cuisine. It has a slightly bitter taste and a texture similar to spinach or kale, making it a versatile ingredient in soups, stews, and stir-fries. Callaloo is packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including iron, calcium, and vitamin C. It is also a good source of dietary fiber and antioxidants. Although callaloo can refer to various plants, the most common variety used in cooking is Amaranthus dubius. Its unique flavor and nutritional value make it a staple in many traditional dishes.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like callaloo?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
