So, what is calcium bisulfite?
Calcium bisulfite is a food additive that is commonly used as a preservative and antioxidant, particularly in the wine industry. It's derived from sulfurous acid, which is produced by burning sulfur. Calcium bisulfite is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and has a slightly acidic taste. It's often added to foods like canned fruits and vegetables, dried fruit, and fruit juices to prevent browning and spoilage. In addition to its use as a food additive, calcium bisulfite is also used in industrial applications, such as wastewater treatment and paper production.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
