So, what is chucrut?

Chucrut, also known as sauerkraut, is a fermented food that has been enjoyed for centuries. It is made by finely shredding cabbage and then packing it tightly into a container, where it is left to ferment for several days or weeks. During this time, the natural bacteria on the cabbage begin to break down the sugars in the vegetable, producing lactic acid and creating a tangy, sour flavor. Chucrut is a great source of probiotics, which are beneficial for digestive health, and it is also rich in vitamins C and K. This versatile ingredient can be used as a topping for hot dogs and sausages, added to sandwiches, or used as a side dish for a variety of meals.

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".
