So, what is crosslinked sodium carboxy methyl cellulose?
Crosslinked sodium carboxy methyl cellulose, also known as CMC, is a food ingredient commonly used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier. It is made by chemically modifying natural cellulose to make it water-soluble and more stable under different conditions. This versatile ingredient can be found in a variety of processed foods, including dairy products, baked goods, sauces and dressings, and beverages. Its ability to improve texture, viscosity, and mouthfeel makes it a popular ingredient in many food formulations. CMC is generally considered safe for consumption but should be consumed in moderation, as excessive intake may cause gastrointestinal issues.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
