So, what is extrait levure?
Extrait levure, also known as yeast extract, is a popular food ingredient derived from the cells of yeast. It is commonly used as a flavor enhancer in a variety of savory dishes, including soups, sauces, and seasonings. Extracted through a process of autolysis, the yeast cells are broken down to release their natural flavor compounds, which are then concentrated into a paste or powder. Rich in umami flavor, extract levure is prized for its ability to add depth and complexity to dishes without overpowering other flavors. It is also a source of B vitamins and other nutrients, making it a popular ingredient in vegan and vegetarian diets.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
