So, what is fd%c blue 1?
The term "fd%c blue 1" is an optical character recognition error or typographical misprint for FD&C Blue 1, a synthetic food dye also known as Brilliant Blue FCF or E133, and it is vegan. This additive is widely used across the food industry to impart a bright blue shade to processed goods. Common products containing it include confections, carbonated soft drinks, sports beverages, baked goods, gelatin desserts, cereals, and ice creams.
FD&C Blue 1 is produced through chemical synthesis from petroleum derivatives, specifically aromatic hydrocarbons derived from crude oil processing. The manufacturing process relies on synthetic chemical reactions and does not utilize animal tissues, animal fats, or animal-derived processing aids at any stage.
Because FD&C Blue 1 is derived entirely from petrochemical sources and synthetic compounds, it contains no animal-derived ingredients or byproducts. Consequently, the verdict for this color additive is vegan.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
