So, what is folate?
Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is an essential water-soluble nutrient that plays a crucial role in several bodily functions. It is required for DNA synthesis and repair, red blood cell formation, and proper brain function. Folate is particularly important for pregnant women as it helps prevent birth defects in the developing fetus. It can be found naturally in foods like leafy green vegetables, fruits, nuts, and beans. Folate is also available as a dietary supplement and is often added to fortified foods like bread, cereal, and pasta. A deficiency in folate can lead to anemia, fatigue, and impaired immune function.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
