So, what is gær?
Gær is a Danish term for yeast, a single-celled fungus used in baking and fermentation. This versatile ingredient is responsible for the fluffy texture of bread and the effervescence of beer. Yeast works by consuming sugars in the dough or wort, producing carbon dioxide and alcohol as byproducts. This process leavens the dough or ferments the liquid, creating a complex flavor profile. Yeast can be found in both fresh and dried forms and can be used in a variety of recipes, from sourdough bread to pizza dough to wine. Its unique properties make it an essential ingredient in many culinary traditions around the world.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
