So, what is gehydrolyseerd plantaardig eiwit?
Gehydrolyseerd plantaardig eiwit, also known as hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), is a food ingredient derived from various plant sources. It is a flavor enhancer commonly used in processed foods, such as soups, sauces, and snacks, to impart a savory or umami taste. The process of hydrolysis breaks down the proteins into smaller peptides, resulting in a concentrated source of free amino acids, which contribute to the unique taste and aroma of the final product. Gehydrolyseerd plantaardig eiwit is often used as a substitute for monosodium glutamate (MSG) due to its similar flavor-enhancing properties.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
