So, what is ground elder?

Ground elder is an edible wild herb that grows in shady places across Europe and parts of Asia. It has a distinctive aroma and flavor that is similar to parsley, with hints of citrus and anise. The plant's leaves are deeply lobed and shiny, and its stalks are hollow and grooved. Ground elder is rich in vitamins A and C, as well as minerals like calcium and potassium. In traditional medicine, it has been used to treat a variety of ailments, including arthritis, gout, and digestive problems. When used in cooking, ground elder can be added to soups, stews, and salads for a fresh, zesty flavor.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like ground elder?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
