So, what is hagelzucker?
Hagelzucker, also known as pearl sugar or hail sugar, is a popular food ingredient used in baking and confectionery. This coarse sugar has a distinct crunch and adds texture to pastries, cookies, and bread. Its unique shape and transparency make it visually appealing and perfect for decorating cakes and other desserts. Hagelzucker is made by cooking sucrose syrup and then rapidly cooling it, forming small, irregularly shaped pearls. It is commonly used in Scandinavian and German baking, adding a sweet and satisfying crunch to treats like cinnamon buns and gingerbread houses.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
