So, what is hydrogenated palm oil?
Hydrogenated palm oil is a commonly used food ingredient that is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree. It is a type of vegetable oil that has been chemically modified through a process called hydrogenation, which involves the addition of hydrogen atoms to the oil molecules. This process increases the shelf life and stability of the oil, making it suitable for use in many food products. However, the hydrogenation process can also result in the creation of trans fats, which have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease. As a result, many health experts recommend limiting consumption of products containing hydrogenated palm oil.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
