So, what is hydrogenated soyabean oil?
Hydrogenated soybean oil is a vegetable oil that has been chemically processed to transform its liquid form into a semi-solid one. This is achieved through the addition of hydrogen atoms, which alter the oil's molecular structure and make it more stable and resistant to spoilage. Hydrogenated soybean oil is commonly used in the food industry as a cheap and versatile ingredient in a variety of products, such as baked goods, margarine, and snack foods. However, due to its high trans fat content, it has been linked to numerous health problems, including heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. As a result, many health experts recommend limiting or avoiding consumption of products containing hydrogenated soybean oil.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
