So, what is hydrogenated vegetal fat?
Hydrogenated vegetable fat is a type of processed fat produced by adding hydrogen atoms to unsaturated vegetable oils. This process solidifies the oil, giving it a longer shelf life and making it easier to use in food manufacturing. However, the hydrogenation process also creates trans fats, which have been linked to an increased risk of heart disease. In recent years, there has been a move towards eliminating hydrogenated vegetable fat from processed foods and replacing it with healthier alternatives.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
