So, what is kawa?

Kawa is a traditional ingredient used in various Polynesian cultures. It is made by grinding the root of the kava plant into a fine powder that can be mixed with water to create a calming and mildly sedative beverage. The flavor profile of kawa is earthy and slightly bitter, with a numbing effect on the tongue and mouth. Due to its soothing properties, kawa has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for anxiety and stress. However, it should be consumed in moderation, as excessive use may cause liver damage. Kawa is also used in cooking to add depth and complexity to dishes such as stews, soups, and curries.
