So, what is lanolin oil and wax?
Lanolin oil and wax are derived from sheep wool and are widely used in the food industry as a lubricant and emulsifier. Lanolin oil is a pale yellow liquid, while lanolin wax is a yellowish-white solid. Both contain high amounts of fatty acids and cholesterol, making them excellent moisturizers and skin protectants. In food, they are used to prevent sticking and as a water-resistant coating for fruits and vegetables. Lanolin oil and wax are also commonly used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products. However, they should be avoided by those with wool allergies.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
