So, what is lizard's tail?
Lizard's tail is a common name for Saururus cernuus, a perennial wetland plant native to North America, as well as the related Asian species Saururus chinensis. The plant derives its colloquial name from the drooping shape of its slender white flower spikes. Manufacturers harvest the leaves, roots, and aerial parts of the plant, which are washed, dried, and milled into powders or steeped to create liquid extracts. On ingredient lists, lizard's tail is most frequently found in specialty herbal teas, dietary supplements, and traditional botanical infusions.
Despite its animal-sounding name, lizard's tail is entirely of plant origin and involves no animal species in its cultivation or processing. No animal ingredients or animal-derived processing aids are utilized in producing it. Because it is derived solely from the Saururus plant, lizard's tail is vegan.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
