So, what is malto-dextrine?

Maltodextrin is a white powder made from corn, rice, potato starch, or wheat that is commonly used as a food additive. It is a carbohydrate derived from the partial hydrolysis of starch, and its complex structure allows it to serve as a bulking agent, a thickener, a flavor carrier, and a sweetener. Maltodextrin has a neutral flavor and is highly soluble in water, making it a popular ingredient in sports drinks, meal replacement shakes, and other food and beverage products. It is also used in the pharmaceutical industry as a filler and in the cosmetic industry as a binding agent.

How to quickly find the source of ingredients like malto-dextrine?

We've built a database of 49359 ingredients (and growing), classified as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "maybe vegan".

We use it in our vegan ingredients scanner, which is the best way to avoid non-vegan ingredients - you take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
