So, what is mejillón?
Mejillón, also known as the common mussel, is a popular and versatile ingredient in Spanish cuisine. These bivalve mollusks are found along the coastlines of Europe, from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean. The meat is firm and tender with a mild briny flavor that pairs well with garlic, white wine, and other seafood. Mejillones en escabeche, or pickled mussels, are a popular tapa that can be enjoyed as an appetizer or snack. Rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, mejillones also offer health benefits such as supporting immune function and reducing inflammation.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
