So, what is monopotassium tartrate?
Monopotassium tartrate, also known as cream of tartar, is a white, odorless powder with a slightly acidic taste. It is a potassium salt of tartaric acid, which is naturally found in grapes and other fruits. This food ingredient is commonly used as a leavening agent in baking, helping to stabilize egg whites and prevent sugar from crystallizing in syrups and candies. Monopotassium tartrate is also used in the production of effervescent beverages and as a flavor enhancer in certain foods. In addition, it has a few medicinal uses, such as to treat urinary tract infections and as a laxative.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
