So, what is nonyl acetate?
Nonyl acetate is a clear, colorless liquid with a fruity, floral odor reminiscent of jasmine and orange blossoms. It is an ester formed by the reaction of nonanol with acetic acid and is commonly used as a flavoring agent and fragrance in various food and cosmetic products. In addition to its pleasant aroma, nonyl acetate is also used as a solvent for resins, oils, and waxes. Despite its natural occurrence in fruits and flowers, nonyl acetate should be used in moderation as it may cause skin irritation and respiratory distress if inhaled in high concentrations.
We've built a vegan ingredients scanner that classifies food ingredients as "vegan", "non-vegan", or "potentially vegan".
It allows you to avoid non-vegan ingredients - just take a picture of a product's ingredient list, and the app tells you if the product is vegan or not.
